Explain why alpha and beta particles are deflected in an electric or a magnetic field, but gamma rays are not deflected in such a field.

Alpha and beta radiations are charged particles. Alpha is positively charged and beta is negatively charged. Hence these are deflected in an electric or magnetic field whereas gamma radiations are uncharged particles and therefore cannot deflect in an electric or magnetic field.
