Explain why an aqueous solution of acid conducts electricity.

For the conduction of electricity through the aqueous solution, the ions of acids/ base/ electrolytes must be present.

When acids are dissolved in water, they dissociate into ions.

Example:

The dissociation of Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) in water is as shown below:

HClH+(aq)+Cl(aq)

Hence, an aqueous solution of acid conducts electricity.
