Question

Explain why: (b) Fused calcium chloride is used in the preparation of FeCl3.

Open in App
Solution

The anhydrous form of iron (Ⅲ) chloride is a highly deliquescent substance, which means it can absorb moisture from the atmosphere until it dissolves in the absorbed water and forms a solution. So it is kept dry with the help of fused calcium chloride which acts as a drying agent by absorbing moisture.
