Question

Explain why gymnosperms fail to produce fruits?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

In gymnosperms, the reproductive structures are the cones which are unisexual. Here, the ovules are not located inside the ovaries. Since, it is the ovary which after the fertilisation forms the fruit, therefore lack of ovary in gymnosperms leads to no fruit formation.

Regards.
