(i) common salt becomes sticky during the rainy season?

Open in App
Solution

Common salt becomes sticky during the rainy season due to the deliquescence process.

Deliquescence process:

  • It is a process by which a substance absorbs moisture from the atmosphere until it dissolves in the absorbed water and forms a solution.

So, the common salt generally contains a small percentage of Magnesium chloride (MgCl2) which is of deliquescent nature. When exposed to the atmosphere, it becomes moist and becomes sticky.
