Question

explain why ionic compounds are soluble in water but are insoluble in nonpolar solvents?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student ,
Ionic compound form of two or more ions .These ions have charge either positive or negative. And Water also have positive ion ie. H+ and negetive ion ie. OH-. And we know that opposite charge attract each other so it react with other ion of ionic compoud and form a soluble compound.

But organic compound don't have ion so ionic compound do not mix with organic compound.

But remember …

Like dissolve like means ionic compound dissolve in ionic compound and organic compound dissolve in organic compound.
