Question

Explain why

Iron sheets are coated with zin during galvanization

Open in App
Solution

  1. The metal Iron is so susceptible to the formation of rust on its surface.
  2. Iron reacts easily with moisture and air in forming rust or Iron oxide(Fe2O3).
  3. The equation for the formation rust is, Fe(s)Iron+O2(g)Oxygen+H2O(l)ā†’Fe2O3.H2Orust
  4. So for preventing or reducing the damage of Iron, it is coated with the metal Zinc and the process is known as Galvanization.
  5. Hence, for protecting Iron from forming rust it is coated with Zinc during Galvanization.
