Question

Explain why is sodium less reactive than potassium.

Open in App
Solution

On moving down the group in the alkali metals, the size of the atom increases and the effect of the nuclear charge gets decreased.
Due to these factors, the electron of potassium which is located in outer shell gets lost easily as compared to Na.
Therefore, potassium is highly reactive than sodium.
