Question

Explain why ‘magnetic field lines never intersect with each other'.

Open in App
Solution

  1. A magnetic field is space around a magnet where its influence can be felt.
  2. Lines of force, more appropriately, are referred to as magnetic field lines.
  3. Two lines of force can never meet each other.
  4. Two magnetic field lines can never intersect each other because if they do there will be two directions of the field at the same point, which is impossible.
Hence, magnetic field lines never intersect with each other.
