  1. Pickles contain various bacteria.
  2. Adding salt creates a hypertonic medium in pickles.
  3. As the pickles become hypertonic, the water from the bacterial cells moves out and the bacteria are killed due to plasmolysis.
  4. Thus, pickles can be preserved by adding much salt to them.
