Question

Explain why N2 has greater bond dissociation energy than N+2 whereas O2 has lesser bond dissociation energy than O+2

Open in App
Solution

N2 has bond order 3 and N+2, it is 2.5. Great bond order has higher bond dissosiation energy. So N2 has more bond dissosiation energy than N+2. For O2 bond order is 2. For O+2, bond order is 2.5. So, bond dissociation is greater for O+2.
