Explain why people are advised to use iodised salt in cooking food.

Iodine is needed by the thyroid gland for the production of thyroxine hormone. This hormone regulates fat, protein, and carbohydrate metabolism in our body. Deficiency of this hormone results in the swelling up of the neck which is due to due to the enlargement of thyroid gland or larynx. This deficiency disease is known as goiter. Therefore the iodized salt is advised.
