Photosynthesis is considered the most important process in the biosphere because:
(i) It is the only known process which converts light energy into chemical energy for utilisation by all living organisms.
(ii)
It manufactures organic food. All heterotrophs are dependent on the
organic food prepared by the green plants by photosynthesis.
(iii) A
number of plant products of economic importance such as timber, fibres,
resins, alkaloids, gums, tannins, oils, rubber, cork, etc. are produced
by photosynthesis.
(iv) Coal, natural gas and petroleum are products of photosynthetic organisms that lived in the past on this earth.
(v) It maintains the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide and oxygen.
