Explain why some worms living in soil come at only during heavy rain ?

Worms, like all other animals need to breathe, but since worms do not have mouths, they have a different way they breathe. Worms breathe directly through their skin, but they can only do so if their skin remains moist. Deep down in the soil, where worms typically live, it is normally moister than the surface. For this reason, worms prefer to live underground. After it rains, the surface becomes wet enough to support worm life, so they can come above ground to explore new areas more quickly.
