Question

Explain why, steam at 100 is better for heating purposes than boiling water at 100C.

Open in App
Solution

You have to add lots of energy to 100C water to turn it into 100C steam as steam has a latent heat of vaporization also. Thus, steam can heat up more before cooling down to normal room temperature water. The amount of energy is equal to that of heating water from 0Cto 100C 5,4 times over. More heat available from steam at 100 deg.C. Steam while condensing gives out the latent heat of evaporation.
