(a) Nitrogen can be obtained in the pure state by removing CO2 and O2 from air.
(b) Ammonium salts, on heating, give ammonia.

(a) Nitrogen cannot be obtained in the pure state by removing CO2 and O2 from air because the nitrogen so obtained contains noble gases (about 1% by volume).
(b) Ammonium salts decompose to give ammonia only when they are heated with caustic alkali such as slaked lime [Ca(OH)2] or caustic soda (NaOH) or caustic potash (KOH).
