Question

Explain why the tip of a sewing needle is sharp.

Open in App
Solution

When the surface area of a material is quite large, it can exert the lesser amount of pressure on another surface; while the object with the minimum surface area can put in the highest pressure. Hence, the tip of the needle should be very sharp, so that it has the minimum amount of surface area and can exert the highest pressure on the surface to which it is applied for sewing.
