Explain why water comes out more slowly from an upstairs tap than from a similar tap downstairs.
Most buildings have a water tank placed on their roof which supplies water to all taps inside. Now, a tap placed closer to this roof tank (i.e. an 'upstairs tap') would have lower pressure head of the water, thus making it slower since water has to travel a very short distance from the tank to the tap.
On the other hand, the tap downstairs is much farther from the roof tank and the pressure head of water is thus higher, making the water spring out faster.
Even if we consider that the water tank is on ground level, the downstairs tap would be faster than the upstairs tap since the water would be rising up against gravity, making it easier for the downstairs tap to be faster than the one above.
