Solution
Compound:
A compound is a pure substance that is composed of many identical molecules which are composed of atoms from more than one element and are held together by chemical bonds.
It has a definite composition and a fixed structure.
It is not easily separated by physical means, that is by filtration, distillation, evaporation, etc.
Mixtures:
A mixture is made up of two or more substances and these substances are not bonded together.
Each of them are having its own different properties and therefore, their ratio is not definite thus, they have variable compositions.
They can be easily separated by physical methods like filtration, handpicking, distillation, etc.
Water is a compound:
Water is a compound, that results from a combination of Hydrogen and Oxygen in a fixed ratio with a chemical bond.
Water has totally different properties from its constituent elements Hydrogen and Oxygen.
Physical techniques cannot separate water into its components, that is, Hydrogen, and Oxygen.
Its constituents can be separated either by chemical or electrochemical reactions.
Water is a triatomic molecule (2 Hydrogen molecules and 1 Oxygen molecule) with a fixed boiling point.
Therefore, water is a compound and not a mixture and it is made up of identical molecules which are bonded together.
