Explain why you will fill a bucket from a downstairs tap quicker than from an upstairs tap.

Open in App
Solution

  1. We know that as the depth increases, the pressure exerted by a liquid column also increases.
  2. So, the pressure of water coming out of a tap downstairs will be greater than the pressure of water coming out of a tap upstairs.
  3. Due to this, the bucket kept downstairs will fill faster as compared to the bucket kept upstairs.
  4. Hence, a bucket will fill quicker from a downstairs tap as compared to an upstairs tap.
