The galvanometer can be converted into a voltmeter by connecting a high resistance in series with it. The value of ′R′ to be connected in series with the galvanometer depends on the potential difference to be measured, Ig is the current for which the galvanometer gives full scale deflection, and B the galvanometer across AB is V=Ig(G+R) R=VIg−G.
