1. Participation of People in forest management helps to conserve forests in a better way.
2. One of such example is in the West Bengal, the villagers were involved in the protection of 1272 hectares of badly degraded Sal forest.
3. The initiation was led by forest officer A.K. Banerjee.
4. In return, the villagers got employment in silviculture and harvesting operations.
5. Villagers are also allowed to collect firewood and fodder from the forest area at a nominal price.
6. With the collaboration of local people and government the Sal forest was revived within ten years.
7. Thus with local people's participation, forest management can be done in an efficient way.
