Question

Explain with reasoning:(1)Particles in a liquid do not flow (2)a liquid boils at its boiling point

Open in App
Solution

The solution is as follows:

Both of the properties of the liquid are explained by intermolecular forces of attraction between the particles. The particles of liquid have stronger forces of attraction as compared to gases. This requires energy to break these bonds, and thus, liquids have boiling point, that temperature at which energy of particles is high enough to break the bonds and escape into gaseous phase.
