Percentage cover is a more meaningful measure of population size than mere numbers because in some cases, numbers cannot tell the correct role of species in the ecosystem . Example: in a given area there are 50 plants of tomato and only one mango tree. Here we can not say that population of mango is less than tomato as the biomass of the mango is more than the tomato. therefore, percentage cover is better measure.
