Mitosis is a part of the cell cycle process by which the replicated chromosomes are separated into two new nuclei. It produces two genetically identical cells in which the number of chromosomes is maintained as the same as the parent cell.

Meiosis is a special type of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half and forms four haploid cells each having genetically distinct number of chromosomes from the parent cell.
