Express the following linear equations in the form ax + by + c = 0 and indicate the values of a, b and c in each case:
(i) 5 = 2x
$(ii) - 2 x + \frac{y}{5} = 6$

Solution

$(i) 5 = 2 x$
$∴ 2 x - 5 = 0$
$Comparing with a x + b y + c = 0,$
$a = 2, b = 0 & c = - 5.$
$(ii) - 2 x + \frac{y}{5} = 6$
$∴ \frac{- 10 x + y}{5} = 6$
$∴ - 10 x + y = 30$ $∴ - 10 x + y - 30 = 0$
$Comparing with a x + b y + c = 0,$
$a = - 10, b = 1 & c = - 30.$
