Question

Express the following with a single exponent:

(33)5×342

Open in App
Solution

For any non-zero integer a, where mandn are whole numbers,

amn=am×n

So, (33)5= 33×5 where a=3,m=3,n=5

=315………………….(1)

Also, 342=34×2 where a=3,m=4,n=2

=38………………….(2)

Therefore, (33)5×342=315×38 (From (1) and (2))

we know that, am×an=am+n

Exponents can be added only when the bases are the same.

So, 315×38=315+8 where a=3,m=15,n=8

=323.

Therefore, (33)5×342=323.
