Solution

Cornea and Pupil:

  1. The cornea is the transparent covering over the eyeball which lies over the white outer covering called the sclera, light enters the eye through the cornea.
  2. The pupil is the small opening in the iris which controls the amount of light that can enter the eye.

The eyes of the nocturnal birds have a large cornea and a large pupil so that:

  1. It can absorb more ambient light.
  2. It allows them to see objects even in dim light or at night.
