Question

Factorise: 4(x-y)^2-12(x-y)+9

Open in App
Solution

Take (x-y) as ‘a’
then given equation becomes
4a^2-12a+9
4a^2-6a-6a+9
2a (2a-3)-3 (2a-3)
(2a-3)(2a-3)
Resubstituting (x-y) for ‘a’
[2(x-y)-3][2(x-y)-3]
(2x-2y-3)(2x-2y-3)
(2x-2y-3)^2
