Question

Factorise 4x4+9y4+6x2y2.

Open in App
Solution

Taking a=2x,b=3y, we obtain
a4+a2b2+b4=4x4+6x2y2+9y4
We can use factorisation we have just proved. Thus
4x4+6x2y2+9y4=a4+a2b2+b4=(a2+ab+b2)(a2ab+b2)
Putting back the value of a and b, we obtain
4x4+6x2y2+9y4=(2x26xy+3y2)(2x2+6xy+3y2).
