Given: $7 x^{2} + 40 x - 12$
By splitting the middle term, we get,
$= 7 x^{2} + 42 x - 2 x - 12$
$= 7 x (x + 6) - 2 (x + 6)$
$= (x + 6) (7 x - 2)$
Hence, the answer is $(x + 6) (7 x - 2)$ .
