Factorise the polynomial $x^{2} - 3 x - 10, 2 (x - 5) (x^{2} + 4 x + 2)$ and find their H.C.F and L.C.M.

Solution

Let $f (x) =$ $x^{2} - 3 x - 10$ and $g (x) =$ $2 (x - 5) (x^{2} + 4 x + 2)$
Factor of $x^{2} - 3 x - 10 = (x - 5) (x + 2)$
Factor of $x^{2} + 4 x + 2 = (x + 2)^{2}$
So, H.C.F $=$ $(x + 2) (x - 5)$
L.C.M $=$ $2 (x - 5) (x + 2)^{2}$
