Question

Factorize x4-y4 by using identity a2-b2=(a+b)(a-b).

Open in App
Solution

Factorize the given polynomial

Given: x4-y4=(x2)2-(y2)2

use the identity a2-b2=(a+b)(a-b)

x4-y4=(x2-y2)(x2+y2)

Again using the identity a2-b2=(a+b)(a-b)

x4-y4=(x-y)(x+y)(x2+y2)

Hence, the factorized form of the polynomial x4-y4 is (x-y)(x+y)(x2+y2).
