Question

Farmers are using a large number of pesticides and fertilizers in their fields to increase crop production and to enhance their profits. But by doing so they are causing damage to the soil as well as to the environment. Do you agree with this statement? Why should we avoid eating fruits and vegetables without washing them properly? What values do you get from this?

Solution

Yes, we agree with the statement. That is, the use of pesticides in such a huge amount of field will cause damage to the environment and soil.

Plants require a specific pH range (between 5.5to7.0) for their healthy growth. Using a large number of pesticides and fertilizers changes the pH of the soil making it more acidic or alkaline. The use of pesticides and fertilizers for a long time makes the soil barren. Soil erosion occurs when the soil becomes barren, which also harms the environment. Therefore, the use of these pesticides and fertilizers should be restricted as it harms the crops and the soil as well as the environment.

Pesticides and fertilizers are sprayed on vegetables and crops to kill insects and avoid diseases that stick to the surface of fruits and vegetables. Vegetables and fruits should be consumed after washing them properly so that the ill effects of pesticides and fertilizers on health can be avoided.

The value we get from this result is that the basic mantra of healthy living is to eat fresh and organic produce to avoid harm to health and also to the environment because any disturbance in nature will affect our life cycle.
