Father says to son "I am 9 times as old as you were when i was as old as you are". If the sum of their present ages is 50 years. What is the age of father ?

Let the present age of father and son be x and y respectively

Then as per question $x+y=50$ ........................(1)

Given $x=9y$ .......................................................(2)

substituting equation (2) in equation (1) we get

$9y+y=50$

$10y=50$

$y=5$.........................................................................(3)

Putting value of y in eqn 2 we get $x=9\left(5\right)=45$

We get $x=45$

Then age of father is $45$ years
