Fertilization is a physio-chemical process because this process occurs in two parts -

1. Physical part - the movement of sperms up to the ampullary-isthmic junction.
2. Chemical part - This is the part where the sperm head penetrates the secondary oocyte. The secretions of acrosome help the sperm to enter into the cytoplasm of the ovum.
