Many fibers (periodontal fibers) connect cement at one end and the jawbone at another end and hold the tooth firmly in position.
The periodontal ligament is commonly abbreviated as the PDL.
It is a group of specialized connective tissue fibers that essentially attach a tooth to the alveolar bone within which it sits.
It inserts into the root cementum on one side and onto the alveolar bone on the other.
