Fig. 10.13 shows a bar magnet placed on the table top with its north pole pointing towards south. The arrow shows the north-south dirction. There are no other magnets or magnetic material nearby.

(a) Insert two magnetic fiels lines on either side of the magnet using arrow head to show the direction of each field line.

(b) Indicate by crosses, the likely positions of the neutral points.

(c) What is the magnitude of the magnetic field at each neutral points ? Give a reason for your answer.

(c) Magnitude of magnetic field at neutral points is zero. It is so because at these points, the magnetic field of the magnet is equal in magnitude to the earth’s horizontal magnetic field, but it is in opposite direction. Hence, they cancel each other
