Question

Fig. 2.33 shows displacement-time graph of two vehicles A and B moving along a straight road. Which vehicle is moving faster? Give reason.

Solution

The slope of a displacement-time graph gives the velocity of the body. The more slanted or steep displacement-time graph has a large magnitude of velocity. On the other hand, a less slanted or less steep displacement-time graph has a less magnitude of velocity.

From the given displacement-time graph we can observe that the slope of line A is more than the slope of line B so vehicle A is moving with a greater velocity than vehicle B.
