(a) In the arrangement where nitric acid is labelled, it should be water, and where water is labelled it should be nitric acid.
(b) Ammonia and air are the two reactants.
(c) Ammonia and air are taken in the ratio of 1 : 10.
(d) Platinum gauze acts as a catalyst.
(e) Quartz packing in the absorption tower:
(i) slows down the upward displacement of nitrogen dioxide and other gases, and also slows down the downward displacement of water.
(ii) provides greater surface area in which nitrogen dioxide comes in contact with water.
