Question

Figure below shows a velocity-time graph for a car starting from rest. The graph has three parts AB, BC and CD. Which part of graph shows motion with uniform
a) velocity
b) acceleration
c) retardation?

Solution

  • In region BC there is no change in velocity with time. Hence, part BC of graph shows motion with uniform velocity.
  • We know, slope of velocity-time graph gives acceleration. Part AB is a straight line having a constant positive slope. Hence it shows motion with uniform acceleration.
  • Part CD is a straight line having a constant negative slope. Hence Part CD shows motion with uniform retardation.
