Question

Figure shows a small bar magnet falling freely through a horizontal coil. Will there be any induced current in the coil ? If your answer is yes, find the direction of induced current.

Solution

When north pole of the magnet comes close to the coil as shown in the figure, magnetic flux through the coil increases, From Lenze's to oppose the incoming of the north pole induced current in the coil also has north pole at the centre of the coil. Clearly the current in the coil is anticlockwise.
