Question

Figures 10.23(a) and (b) refer to the steady flow of a (non-viscous) liquid. Which of the two figures is incorrect ? Why ?

Open in App
Solution

The figure ( a ) is incorrect as the per the continuity equation

av=k.

The velocity is more where the cross section is less hence the flow of the liquid is more at the constriction portion of tube.

According to the Bernoulli’s theorem

P+ 1 2 ρ v 2 =constant

Which the velocity is more, pressure is less and vice-versa.
