Solution

Autonomic nervous system (ANS)

  1. The ANS controls various involuntary activities of the body by supplying glands, tissues, and internal organs. It consists of ganglia chains in pairs located on both sides of the vertebral column.
  2. Various body activities like the rate of the heartbeat, blood pressure, digestion, respiration, circulation, etc are under the control of ANS.
  3. The ANS is further controlled by an antagonistic system of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and parasympathetic nervous system (PNS).
  4. The SNS consists of adrenergic nerves and prepares the body to respond to abnormal conditions and violent actions. The PNS consists of cholinergic nerves and re-establishes the conditions back to normalcy.
