Solution

1. The ratio of g(earth)/g(moon) is equal to 6.

Description:

2. The value of acceleration due to gravity increases as we move from equator to pole.

Description: As we know that acceleration due to gravity is given by,

Radius of the earth decreases as we move from the equator to the poles earth is not a perfect sphere, it is flattened at the poles and bulges out at the equator. Therefore from the above formula, we can see that the value of acceleration due to gravity increases as we move from the equator to the poles.

3. If the earth shrinks to half of its radius its mass remains same. The weight of an object on earth will change four time.

Description: Weight of the earth, W = Mg

If the earth shrinks to half of its radius, then the new radius of the earth R’ = R/2

Here, M = constant,

And

Now, new acceleration due to gravity of the earth will be

So, the new weight of the object on the earth is, W’ = Mg’ = 4Mg

Therefore, W’ = 4W.
