A chemical equation is said to be balanced if the number of atoms of each element on the left-hand side is equal to the number of atoms present on the right-hand side.
But sometimes there are equations in which the number of atoms on the reactant side is not equal to the number of atoms on the product side. Such types of reactions are called skeletal reactions.
These reactions do not follow the law of conservation of mass.
For example - $H_{2} + O_{2} \to H_{2} O$
