Mendeleev periodic table:

  • In Mendeleev's periodic table elements were arranged based on increasing atomic mass. During Mendeleev, only 63 elements were known so after studying the properties of elements he arranged them into vertical columns called groups and horizontal rows are called periods.
  • Group VIII in Mendeleev's periodic table contains 9 transition elements.
  • Iron, Cobalt, and Nickel
  • Ruthenium, Rhodium, and Palladium
  • Osmium. Iridium, and Platinum.

There are similarities in their physical and chemical properties so they are collectively in group VIII.

So, The elements in group VIII have similar properties.
