Co-interior angles :

As shown in the given figure, two parallel lines AB and CD and a transversal PS intersecting AB at point Q and CD at point R.

AQP=CRQ (Corresponding angles) …………………(i)

And, AQP=AQR=180° (Linear pair) …………………(ii)

From eq. (i) and (ii), we get :

AQR+CRQ=180°

Similarly, BQR+DRQ=180°

AQR, CRQ and BQR, DRQ are the two pairs of interior angles on the same side of transversal PS (called co - interior angles) are supplementary.

Hence when two parallel lines are cut by a transversal then each pair of interior angles on the same side of the transversal are supplementary.
