Circulatory system:

  1. A system that transports oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body through the blood is called a circulatory system.
  2. The heart plays a major role in the circulatory system as it pumps blood throughout the body.
  3. There are two types of circulatory system namely:
  1. Open circulatory system - major blood vessels are absent and hence the blood flow in the body cavities.
  2. Closed circulatory system - blood vessels such as arteries, veins, and capillaries are present for the transport of blood.

Open circulatory system:

  1. Since the major vessels are absent in the body and the blood pumped by the heart goes into the body cavities or sinuses, the pressure of the blood is very low in the open circulatory system.
