Blood group:
The blood group is determined on basis of the antigens present on the plasma membrane of the red blood cells (RBCs).
There are four types of blood groups in the ABO system namely - A, B, AB, and, O.
Rh system:
In the Rh system, the blood group is determined based on considering the additional factor called the Rh factor present in the blood.
If the Rh factor is present in the blood, then the person is said to be Rh-positive (Rh⁺).
If the Rh factor is absent in the blood, then the person is said to be Rh-negative (Rh^-).
Thus, when we consider this Rh factor with the ABO system, there are 8 types of blood groups possible (4 positives and 4 negatives).
There are eight types of blood groups, as per the Rh system.
